This was very cute, with some very funny banter. Themes of forgiveness, leaning into your differences, loving your family better. Realistic sister relationship (not all rainbows and roses). All set over a Thanksgiving weekend (and some from the past) so it's perfect for this time of year.
Not overly romance-y, but a cute new relationship does begin and it's pretty sweet.

This was a very cozy book. Devoured it in one evening after a friend loaned me her copy. This book had the perfect blend of humor, character development, and pacing. There were a few moments right at the end that felt as though they dragged on a bit long but overall, this was a great read! The humor had me cackling several times and it was so easy to get lost in Penny’s story, which, as someone who is a serial fantasy reader, is not a trait I often find in many fiction books I read. I wasn't sure how to rate this one. On the one hand, there were aspects of the book I found unappealing. Penelope begins the book, in my view, as a not-so-likeable character. The kind of person who creates drama while feeling the victim, who sees herself as self-made based on a few independent gestures against a background of massive privilege. The side characters find her to be amazing (why?). But there are other elements. The ex-husband is interesting and well-drawn. Penelope's character develops. The story arc is well done. So 4 stars. The world needs more Thanksgiving books and I'm glad I found this one.

I’m trying to slowly work my way through all the books I download from Amazon first reads each month and never read. This was one of those. This is cute and a fast read, but certainly not anything you would miss if you never read. It’s s the story of a romance writer who has a difficult relationship with her family and comes home for Thanksgiving and runs into her ex husband. It’s a fun fast read.
