I want more but I don’t deserve more

Don't worry about reading [b:The Hate U Give|32075671|The Hate U Give (The Hate U Give, #1)|Angie Thomas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1476284759l/32075671._SY75_.jpg|49638190] first. This is a stand-alone novel. Even though the protagonist is a rapper, you don't have to like rap to love this novel. You do have to love strong females that make mistakes and even use swear words a bit. It's hard to put this one down. The plot moves quickly and although it's a bit of a perfect ending, high schoolers will love it. I'll be recommending this to many students.

Angie Thomas writes the best character relationships - siblings, parents/children, friendships, romance, etc etc etc. So good. So so so so good.

Another wonderful story from Angie Thomas. Was racing through by the time I was a third of the way through the book.

Angie Thomas made it really hard for herself by having a book like THUG be her debut, but this was just as powerful and just as good. Angie is definitely an auto-buy, auto-read author for me. Also, the audiobook for this was fantastic!

What can I say? Page-turner, thought-provoking, well-written and just everything I hoped it would be after reading T.H.U.G.

I wanted to love it as much as The Hate U Give but the story wasn’t as deep. Very predictable.

Angie Thomas has an incredible voice. Her debut novel was so important, and this sophomore novel is equally brilliant and impactful. I switched from reading the ebook to listening to the audiobook so I could hear the main character’s raps, which I highly recommend. Can’t wait to see the movie adaptation, and especially can’t wait to see what Thomas does next.

For me, On the Come Up was not nearly as good as The Hate U Give. The main character, Bri, wasn't super likable. She treated her friends and her mom terribly, which took away from the book. I couldn't really get into this book to the point where I couldn't put it down because I wanted to know what happened next. The end was a little to perfect and wrapped up nice for me as well.

I understand the themes that this book was trying to get across regarding how black people are looked at differently and when white people have guns its ok, but when black people have them, it's something to be feared. These were all relevant, but the book just fell short to me, especially compared to THUG.

Angie has done it again.
I loved every single moment of this book, it was amazing.
