Liked the first one better, but it could have been the person that read the audiobook. Just seemed to skip to so many characters that it was hard to track.

I think I liked this book even more than Crazy Rich Asians. I was more invested in the characters, and they became more than walking mannequins for designer clothes and outlandish experiences. This book toned down (just enough) the descriptions of the lavish excesses (while still giving us enough vicarious voyeurism) to let the characters shine and it was great!

This was a really interesting read. I had a good time with it, even though it took me a while to fall into the rhythm. I love Rachel and Nick, and to think I was actually loving Colette at one point. Lol.
The book is well written, but it felt too much like a movie script, which made it a bit hard to get into and follow all the characters. I struggled with figuring out who to focus on as the main character because the story felt all over the place, but as it progressed, I was able to recognize each character, though there are still some I can't quite place.
I do feel a little unsatisfied with Astrid, Michael, and Charlie’s storyline. I need closure on that one. But I’m glad I didn’t give up when I felt lost and trusted the process. It was worth it in the end.

“I know the average outfit in your wardrobe costs more than a semester of tuition at Princeton, but it makes you look like a community college during summertime: NO CLASS.”
Filled with even crazier drama, China Rich Girlfriend focuses more on side characters (new and formerly introduced), taking the spotlight from Rachel and Nick. That’s not to say that we don’t get a bombshell revelation regarding Rachel’s parentage, but the story’s no longer solely about her and Nick’s lives.
Some character journeys were fun, others were tedious. If you enjoyed the excessive descriptions of opulence fear not! Those continue with gusto.
A new inclusion are author’s notes throughout for meanings/descriptions of words, phrases, foods, etc. They were interesting and informative but, since I was listening to the audiobook, they interrupted the flow of the story. I don’t know why the author would suddenly include translations unless readers complained that they didn’t understand non-English phrases, etc. from the first book so the author accommodated. A nice gesture, but I would’ve preferred an appendix at the end instead of the constant interruptions.
Lydia Look is an excellent narrator, who managed to juggle multiple characters and different accents. She did an amazing job.
If you read the first book, the second is just as fun and even more crazy.

I don’t know what it is with this Crazy Rich Asian series but Book 2 sucked me in just like Book 1. Maybe it’s become my “guilty pleasure” series or some other personal curiosity but the fact is, I cannot put them down. Not typically my kind of book but they are oddly addictive.
