Rebecca is one of the best novels I’ve ever read. Worthy of being hailed as a classic, it deserves every praise. I wasn’t into the first few chapters, but once it has my attention, I could not put this book down. Du Maurier’s imagery and use of language is masterful. Her dialogue and scenes are precise, and it’s only after you read the twist that many details included by the author make sense. Moreover, I love how Rebecca haunts the narrative so vividly to the point that out narrator remains nameless, only known as the new Mrs. Maxim de Winter. The final twists were so entertaining to read, and at many points I had no idea what to expect. Thrilling, and beautifully written.

What a strange book. The audiobook was excellent. It started off very well; engaging, atmospheric. Once the plot makes it to Manderly; this slow down considerably for awhile. (Modern day editing would have never let this go unchecked). Our main character becomes annoying, to the point of hysterical and I thought about not finishing. And then ... Plot twist! And things speed up again and become quite interesting. And things continue to twist and turn until.... Possible spoiler ahead-

The end is so ridiculously abrupt and unfinished. After literally chapters of meandering, descriptive, expose on trivial things like how tea was laid, or the flower garden, the story comes to a crashing halt! No real resolution at all. Key characters very lives left to your imagination.

I suppose the author did it on purpose? The early thriller; leave you feeling unsettled and wondering. It would be an incredible book club discussion. Gosh.... I really don't know what to think about it as a whole work.

Rebecca is interestingly relatable with vividly beautiful description. And that ending!! Woww I was not expecting it.
The new Mrs d winter (I think it's interesting that we never find out her name) is somewhat irritating but also sweet, pitiable and relatable. The way she analyses the routines of the world and how people think gives the book a modern feel, contrasting with the time period and the traditions. Also this delving into her inner thoughts and the relatable feelings of jealously, imposter syndrome and not being good enough give the book, and her as a character, a very genuine feel.
It was so well written and the characters and setting build up so cleverly I almost wanted to write an essay about it (ughh I'm such a nerd).
I loved the haunting glimpses of Rebecca throughout the novel, and how we almost feel as if we know her, even though it's just Mrs d w's imagination.
The only thing was that it kinda dragged in the middlish end, but overall it was an extremely worthwhile and ominously gothic book.
Also Mrs d was just creepy ngl.
Now I'll watch the film.
