This was the last book that I read in the series that I really enjoyed. The quality may not have gone down, but things started to feel repetitive after this and I really lost interest. Apparently these books hold the attention of kids just fine though.

3 and a half. Better written than I expected. This is my favorite chapter in the story since the first one. I'll have to see what else Jude Watson has written.

This book brought up quite a lot of ouchie family feelings- which caused way more emotions than I expected. I really enjoyed the family friend, the history, and the atmosphere of this book but again this series and its authors like to jump locations without explaining. If it’s confusing for adult me I imagine middle grade readers would be quite frustrated by that.

It’s also odd how Nellie continues to change race & accent in every single audiobook… why was that not stabilized? I love her character but that’s super weird
