There were a lot of good and poignant moments in this book. I think it built up on the secondary story a bit more which will lead well into the next book. I loved seeing the flashbacks of Kiran and Maeva, they were so cute! I think the most disappointing part of this book was how long it took for them to start to progress in their relationship. In some ways it made sense......but it just felt a little slow. I wish that more had happened in the story. I felt like it need just a little bit more of a centering point. It didn't build up to anything besides the relationship aspect, which was good, but I think the story would have been enriched if there was a bit more. I still really enjoyed the book but I do feel a little disappointed.

Really solid 4.5 and rounding up because I love this series. The world is so much fun and I really loved Maeve and Kiran and their whole love story. I’m not the biggest fan of second chance romance so that was the only drawback for me but it all worked out. I also love how different the characters in each of these books feel. I worried it might get repetitive but I’m still really loving these and honestly dreading running out of more books to bing. 6 doesn’t even feel like enough time in this world lol.

This one isn’t my favourite of the series but only because of one thing. The story overall was on par with the rest of this series, I loved the angst and, the grovelling was perfection. I just wasn’t as big of a fan with how the MMC handled the years of them being apart.
(Minor Spoilers)
I dislike above all else (besides cheating) when the MCs have some time apart and the one who hurt the other continues living as if nothing happened while the other is stuck heartbroken and pinning. In this case, while Maeva is unable to move on and is still a virgin, the MMC went off, had sex with a bunch of women and didn’t even look back for 9 years until he had a vision with her in it. In my opinion, what made it worse is that whenever he was with another woman he felt like he cheating on her. So while she couldn’t even bring herself to be with a man that wasn’t him even though he broke her heart, he was having sex with all these other women but hey, at least he felt a little bad while doing it? I think if he didn’t see her as anything but a friend at first and grew to love her when she went to help his horde, it would have been a five star read for me.
(Minor Spoilers Done)
I did really like Maeva though. It was interesting getting to see her as a healer and I liked how she didn’t fall right to his feet. There was some serious - and much deserved - grovelling and I liked that Maeva didn’t give in too quickly. I will say though that the necklace he gave her was very sweet.
I do love the series and this book was a very enjoyable read. I love how every book isn’t just a copy of the previous one. Each book shows different points of view of this world and introduces knew concepts of how they live. In this case, our FMC grew up in a saruk (a village) and became a healer. The reasoning behind why the FMCs come to stay with each horde is also new and refreshing and not just constantly taking a woman from her village for braking the rules.

I loved this book. So much. I loved this view into Dakkar life and the progression of things. And I loved this couple.
I nearly let the reviews scare me off. I saw more than a few describe tropes I don't like. I saw descriptions that made me pause... but what I read was not what some of the reviews described.
It was very sweet, second chance romance, and I'm normally not into it but the way this went about, I adored it. They're so wonderful and I am so excited for Book 5.
5/5 would read again
