Love this entire series! Truth be told, its a toss-up whether my favorite is book 2 (CbtHK) or book 3 (MotHK). Each book follows a different Horde King and his female/lover/wife/queen. Plenty of action, angst, grief, loss, seggystime. Definitely a good reread for the future.

I am in love with this series and this culture and this world. It’s always a delight to read more about the customs and characters of Dakkar and I am greatly looking forward to the 5th book. I really loved the added insight from Maeve being a human raised among Dakkari people!! More please!!

It's not me, it's the damn book.

very relationship centric, so overall arc didn't really move much. And since the relationship is second chance and I still didnt understand his reasonings for doing what he did, his attitude towards her overall after he rejected her and then her reasoning for forgiving him , this was a miss for me. Second chance lovers will probably like this.

Too angsty

It's okay.
They know each other as children/teenagers, the heroine is a few years younger.
She thinks she's in love with him from a young age but he rejects her publicly.

During the separation, 10 years I think.
He gets to have loads of sex with various females while she remains a virgin.
She does kiss someone else but once he tries to take it further she flees.
She finds out later that he warned most of the men off when he was there, partly as she was a bit of a fascination due to her being human.
But he hasn't kissed anyone since her.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
There is a lot of sex.
Small other woman drama, a member of the horde plus mention of a few escapades though not detailed.
And before he leaves he kisses her sister, intending on more but is disturbed.
The Hero pushed her away as he was destined for leadership and wasn't sure he could fulfill that if he revealed how he really felt and got involved with her when they were younger.
It sort of works better than other explanations of this troupe due to their culture.

Something that did irritate me was the Hero's comment that he admitted that each time he was with another woman during the separation after he felt unfaithful.
He also claimed he thought of her all the time which is inconsistent with hooking up with other women.
HEA.
Enemy plot thread has been through the series remains unresolved but progressed.

ARC.

5 Stars. Wow, I really enjoyed this book.

After reading blurb of Broken By The Horde King, and it’s about second chance, childhood friends to lovers with angst and unrequited love, I was sold! I went straight into reading it even though It’s part of a series and it’s already the 4th book, this book can easily be a stand alone. Also, I didn’t know it was as sci-fi romance, a first for me.

A summary:

Maeva is a human girl abandoned in a forest and was found and adopted by a Dakkari Alien Family. She grew up and raised in the Dakkari ways but she was subjected to bullying for being different thus makes her not able to talk. When she was 8 years old, he met a Dakkari Boy destined to be a King, his name was Kiran, at the time he was the prince and he comforted Maeva when he saw her crying, he gave her his name, which is a sacred thing in the Dakkari way of living. Kiran’s name was Maeva’s first words. Kiran and Maeva became inseparable friends, they grew up and it resulted to Maeva falling in love with Kiran. At 20 years old, Maeva wanted Kiran to know her feelings but he rejected and she felt humiliated. Also he went away to train to become a Horde King, without even saying goodbye. That leaves Maeva having a broken heart. The most devastating happened that cemented her cold heart was when her mother died and Kiran didn’t even show up. She vows to never fall in love to Kiran and to anyone.
9 years has passed and Maeva is an apprentice healer, she wanted to be a certified one or what they call a Mokkira.

Kiran, a Horde King went back after 9 years and he needed a Mokkira for his own horde. An incident happened, that led to Kiran and Maeva’s reunion. Kiran requested for Maeva to be his Mokkira. Maeva agreed but she was guarded, she still has feelings for Kiran after all those years but she can’t let her heart. Kiran realized his mistakes and wants her back in his life.

The story is very well written, the plot is engaging and not confusing for a first time reader of the series. I find myself hurt and emotional with the events. I really love how strong Maeva’s character.. it’s a rare thing to find a heroine who doesn’t give in too easily. She still loves him deeply but she’s distrustful and so she make it hard for him. Kiran is swoon worthy of a character, he acknowledged his mistake and really work to gain her, a true blue alpha possessive too. I love him! I love the reconciliation part, it was kind of slow burn but in a good way. The author did a good job at how she managed to make it angsty and emotional and at the same time, sweet and sexy.

I’ll definitely read the whole series now. 5 stars!
