It's not me, it's the damn book.
very relationship centric, so overall arc didn't really move much. And since the relationship is second chance and I still didnt understand his reasonings for doing what he did, his attitude towards her overall after he rejected her and then her reasoning for forgiving him , this was a miss for me. Second chance lovers will probably like this.

Overall, I liked this childhood sweethearts story of Kiran, a hoard king, and Maeva, a healer. This is a great addition to the legend and overarching plot of this story, I’m only sad because the next book isn’t out yet. The premise is that as child, Maeva and Kiran were best friends but then when Maeva developed a massive crush on Kiran and made it publicly known, he didn’t seem to reciprocate, and what’s more she doesn’t take it very well, especially when his actions after make it seem he doesn’t care. But now allegedly over the past and living her life, Kiran is back for her.
The one thing I sort of had an issue with, is the central conflict kind of being around the main characters who at various moments wanted the other protagonist to love them a certain way and felt “a way” (and threw a bit of a tantrum) when they didn’t receive that love in that way at that time. The author tried to mitigate this issue by presenting it like the protagonists were actually upset about other issues but the main issue at hand was still that of not having their feelings reciprocated. I love this series and I’m excited about upcoming books and checking out this author’s other work because this has been a great reading experience so far.

This book is for those who like childhood friends to lovers and the miscommunication troupes. Everything about this book read well and it was sweet but I felt like nothing much happened. It dragged a little compared to the other books in the series which I LOVED! I didn't feel the sense of adventure and tension between the heroine and hero as I wait with bated breath to see how the story develops, all of which I have come to expect a little in this series. I applaud the author for making this couple different from the rest and I still rooted for them, but almost the entire book felt predictable. At the end of the story, I just wasn't satisfied and was even a bit let down.

I have really enjoyed each book in this series. This one however is my least favorite so far. I loved that it had a much different plot than the rest. I was really looking forward to this one but ended up being a little disappointed. I really wish Maeva would have actually been able to move on from Kiran romantically instead of wallowing in her heartbreak for all those years. Sure she claimed to have moved on/buried those feelings but even before being reunited, all her thoughts were about him. I wanted to see her fall in love with him from a fresh standpoint instead of just unburying her old love for him.
I also didn’t like how a lot of the issues got boiled down to miscommunication and were instantly forgotten and forgiven. Specifically, how Kiran’s mom kept him in the dark about Maeva’s mother’s death. There was no real resolution to that and I found it so frustrating. I understood the thing with Maeva’s dad not letting him say goodbye and find that less egregious than what Kiran’s mom did. I just hate how none of their issues ended up being actual issues. Made everything feel a little hollow and pointless.
There was also no real discussion of how hurt Maeva was and how it impacted her life. Plenty of internal dialogue but no actual conversations between them. I hate when this kind of stuff is breezed by instead of thoroughly discussed. I want to see those conversations, vulnerable moments, and open communication. It’s so unsatisfying to me when these important conversations don’t happen or are super surface level.
Idk this one was just lacking for me in the emotional/communication department. Still love the series and can’t wait to see what’s next!
