I honestly would've given this book a higher rating had the entire last half not happened. Writing wise, I thought it was fine and pretty easy to read save for the constant head hopping between Daphne and Simon. There were a few parts that really stuck out to me that I really loved. Like Simon bringing Violet flowers and it bringing her to tears because she hasn't been given flowers since Edmund died. Or Daphne and Anthony sneaking into the kitchen to boil milk before realizing they have absolutely no idea how to use a stove.
What I didn't like was the miscommunication trope. The whole conflict between Daphne and Simon could've been resolved if Daphne had just asked Simon why he couldn't have kids. Or if Simon hadn't been so evasive for no reason and just told up front that he didn't want kids instead of being so vague. Instead, she just assumes he's impotent only to find out he's not, and then they fight about it, only for Daphne to later take advantage of Simon when he's drunk and half asleep. They're mad at one another for two months, and then they just move on and live happily ever after, and the end. So, that was terrible.
