TJR does it every single time! The woman is an absolute genius! β€οΈ π π π π π
When you read a book in 3 days while working full-time, it has to be rated 5 stars. Really liked these characters and the story that was their lives. Yeah, there were some superfluous characters but it didnβt detract from the book.

A book with so much water on its front cover, yet its first sentence presents a completely different element. Taylor Jenkins Reid, you are a genius.
Unlike the other TJR books I've read so far (TSHOEH and DJATS), Malibu Rising did not leave me wanting to know what would happen next. The world-building and family dynamics were incredibly well written, but the party itself was unexpectedly chaotic, much like the way it was described. Some side characters had unnecessary backstories, which, while serving to immerse you in a house party full of unfamiliar faces, could leave you confused or forgetful about them. However, the Riva siblings each had distinct characteristics, making a lasting impact on the story. Mick Rivaβs character felt genuine and unpretentious, despite flaws and all.
It's also crazy to think how incredibly smart Taylor Jenkins Reid is to write a book that is set within a 24-hour time period, which made sense that so much could happen in a short span of time. Not to mention the dynamics that siblings with a complex relationship can experience in just one night.
