I actually read an abridged version, as found in the Gateway to the Great Books series. Some of the parts they cut out seemed like they would have been a bit more interesting than some parts they kept in. However, this is a classic survival/adventure story. The beginning is more survival than adventure, but it was interesting to see how he came to live alone on the island. The extreme ethnocentrism was hard to swallow, but makes for an interesting discussion point.

The writing was fine. The things that were written however…
Basically just a guy that is extremely racist and colonialist while giving a 101 tutorial on how to survive on a deserted island, all the while acting as a christian missionary and learning absolutely nothing of value from his experience.

Bored. Story telling flat pace so slow imo.

The middle third is a bit slow, but the other two do more than compensate for it.

The book "Robinson Crusoe" from Anaconda Publishing is a great edition of a true classic. I received the book as a gift over 10 years ago and have read it over and over since. Although I read the book as an abridged edition in school as a child, the story still fascinates me.

The story of Robinson Crusoe is an adventure that takes the reader on a journey through the eyes of the protagonist. One learns how he is stranded on a deserted island and builds a new life there. The language of the book is very appealing and captivating. It is a book that inspires you to dream again and dive into an adventurous world.

The edition of the Anaconda publishing house is very beautifully designed and also makes something visually. The book is well-made and has a pleasant size, which makes it easy to take it with you wherever you go.

All in all, I can recommend this book without reservation. It's a classic that still fascinates and is a great read for anyone looking for an adventure.

a how-to guide for budding colonialists. a classic, yes, but one I think we can safely leave behind on a deserted island.
