I love star motifs, and so I loved the concept of this book - a journey to retrieve a fallen star, which turns out to be a young girl. I enjoyed how whimsical and relaxing this book was, which is fitting for its tone of traditional fairytales/fantasy. I loved how each character was so intricately tied together and seeing it come to fruition throughout the story arc. However, I do wish we were able to see more of a development between Yvaine and Tristran, because the love between a human and a star is one of my favorite story ideas to date. Another story concept I loved was Yvaine, the fallen star. I loved her as a character as she was by far the most interesting to me, and I wish I had gotten to know her more. I would love to read more tales about her.

I also listened to the audiobook narrated by the author as a companion to reading it physically and Neil Gaiman is such a talented reader. He truly brings the story to life by giving it another layer of depth.

I can't wait to watch the movie after this, and then maybe after that the illustrated story.

it waa a good book and i enjoyed it. the ending felt a little anticlimactic (at least in comparison to the movie) but it was nice/good.

does use the g word a good few times. kinda wish they'd update it and probably won't re-read this book for that fact

I read this after having seen the film and it is quite different but still good. It has a different sort of charm and explains sone things better while the movie added stuff that were wholly enjoyable.

However, I'll treat it as if it was just the book and I gotta say:

- Don't particularly like the sometimes a little too sexual tone of the descriptions. There's just a vibe to it... Idk.
- The romance angle falls flat, somehow. There is just. The chemistry? I don't know.
- I do not get how Una could have known how life on Stormhold is and miss it if she was stolen by a witch as a baby??! I know it is a relatively minor detail but it irks me so much!

I did quite like the language choices, particularly for the voices of the dead and how it is almost common to be under some curse or another. And the Shakespeare-sounding words used, at times.

For most of the book I found it quite ordinary and boring, I must admit, and even if I liked the second half of it well enough, I don't think I will remember this as something special. Luckily it was rather short, so it wasn't so hard to get through.

It's a prime example of the hero's journey though. It's been a while since I talked about it in school, but this book is textbook hero's journey format and it was easy to spot the steps of it that I still remember.
