“I’m a fake, and he’s my captor.
We exist on lies and secrets.”

Synopsis: Natalia is a servant to a spoiled & cruel cartel princess, daughter of Raul Alvarez, and who is about to be married. The bride to be wants to sneak out of her father’s home to party in town, so Natalia is called upon to stand in for her during her wedding dress fitting. During the fitting, the NYC bratva, led by Mikhail Dimitryov, storm Raul’s compound, murdering Raul and other key leaders in the cartel. Natalia is mistaken for Adriana and kidnapped by Mikhail so he can marry her, thus easily taking over the cartel without a full stage war. Since Adriana was killed as she tried to leave the estate during the beginning of the siege, and since Raul was overly secretive about his daughter, there’s no one to out Natalia.
From there, the plot follows along the standard outline for the trope…he forces her, but eventually she develops feelings for him and he forces her. There’s a lot of drama with his family, and a painfully dis functional dynamic between Mikhail, his half brother Ivan, and their father, the leader or pakhan of the bratva. Family ties and loyalties are questioned, and the only sure thing happening is our hero and his fake cartel princess are falling for each other. Can their love survive her secrets? Can Mikhail hunt down the conspiracy that lead to his mother’s and sister’s deaths?
The twist is crazy, the conclusion is hard fought, and the epilogue is epic.

Notes: Gosh, I really enjoyed this book! It was jam packed with action, suspense, and spice. The plot moves at a good pace, the characters are vibrant and full of life. The story itself is told in first person dual voice, shifting back and forth between Mikhail and Natalia. There are so many morally grey characters, it’s difficult to determine just who the villain(s) is. This wasn’t a casual read to me…I was hooked from the beginning until the nearly heart stopping end.
And the kicker? I picked this book solely because I recognized the incredibly attractive cover model. Although this author has a few mafia series, this is billed as a stand alone.

Ratings: Movie rating NC17, 5/5 overall, 4/5 romance, 4/5 violence, 3/5 spice and 4/5 cover. Check your triggers, but if you like dark romance and the consent issue doesn’t squick you out, I recommend.

DNF at 12%.
Life is too short to read a book you don't enjoy and this one I did not enjoy. The first page had me captivated then that quickly disappeared with our we kept reading about how the heroine was a virgin among other things.

I finished the book in one sitting and its on repeat in my brain, based on this i will say dont read every review and don’t believe everything that is written if you click with the plot and you know its one of your favorite genres thats it, the amount of negativity that i saw was very surprising , but i have reached to a point if i like the auther and read other things by them they don’t disappoint me with new work that they release (Faith summers) is my comfort go to author for me i was in desperate need of dark mafia romance and she delivered
Mikhail and Natalia are the couple that you sit on the edge of your chair for incase something happens i was that invested in them they are a part of me now, and when he told her he loved her i started to melt T-T the fact that they were soulmate and each others half and they felt it, it was everything for me
this book is dark and it PURE mafia world a lot of triggers are in it, please look them up before going in I didn’t have a proble that is not the case for everyone (rape, sexual assault, language, death of loved ones and family members, abuse..etc.)

when he called her “malyshka”, i was done for. i love it when russian mmc do that hehehe. i’m a simple girl
Look, I get there’s a trigger warning for dark romance. But she literally tells him he doesn’t have consent and then he proceeds to assault her anyway. That’s not dark romance, that’s rape. I’m tired of reading books that normalize it. A better author could write a dark romance that doesn’t involve rape. Plus the whole age gap and virgin thing. It’s gross. I would love to see romance novels that’s aren’t written about teenage virgins.
4.4 stars.
This was really gripping.
It had me unable to put it down, wanting to know what the hell would happen next, immediately.
The plot was so dangerous and intriguing.
I’ve never read anything where the girl has to pretend to be someone else so the man will spare her life, because he’ll gain more from marrying ‘her’.
Then the tension and the sex.
Fuck me.
It was hot as all hell.
There was some seriously conflicted feelings all around.
Honestly I really enjoyed this book.
I literally could not force myself to put it down before it’s completion. I was up until after 7am to finish it.
Almost worth feeling like shit right now from lack of sleep.
It ended beautifully.
I really liked the writing in this and I definitely plan to check out other books from this author.
I had a pretty fun time reading this.
