Personajes grises. Tremendo genio el autor.
Y mira que he llorado, reído y encabronado. ¡Tremendo!

Not to self: I wanted to like this. But I just can’t make myself keep going. Wasted a whole audible credit on this.

Empire of the Vampire
By: Jay Kristoff
☽
In an interview, Jay Kristoff was asked to name the first 5 words he thinks of when he thinks of EOTV. He responded:
Heavy. Bloody. Broody. Pretty. Smutty.
I couldn’t agree more.
Where to begin without sounding too cliché? How come no one told me this ended in a heart wrenching cliffhanger? How was the writing so hauntingly disturbing and beautiful at the same time? Why does no one talk about Gabriel!? When does book 2 come out!?
☽
I had seen so many recommendations for this book, and it knew it was about vampires so I didn’t look into anything else about the book before cracking it open. I fell in love immediately with the dark gray world that was described and the achingly beautiful villain, with silver tattooed into his body, being held in a cell. I wasn’t prepared for the soul throbbing and desperation this book would cause. Nor was I prepared to fall completely in love with another book boyfriend.
Gabriel is rude, rash, violent, faithless, sexy, caring, tattooed with silver but made of gold. The hold this book is going to have on me until book 2 comes out will be relentless.
☽
Gabriel De Leon is a Silversaint and a halfbreed. Born a bastard to a human mother and a vampire father that he never met, he joins a holy brotherhood to fight against Vampires and the plight they have put on earth.
The sun has not risen in 27 years and Gabriel has been fighting for 15 of them. He’s the last Silversaint and has finally been captured by his enemies. Instead of the torture he knows will come eventually, a historian sits with him and asks him to tell his story.

If i could give 6 stars I would.
This was an amazing journey. One that I am looking forward to continue with the next book in this series.
The book delivered everything that was promised.
When I heard of this book I was already intrigued. Then, I read Jay's review and it convinced me even further.
While I realise that this my not be everyone's cup of tea, due to the nature of the story and language used by some of the character, it was definitely mine. I think it actually made the character rounder and believable.
I loved the humour, the characterisation of every character and it keep me on my toes even when i was expecting something to happen. It surprised me and made want to read more.
Lastly, even if English is not my first language and the prose here is not contemporary English. I actually appreciated the stylistic choice more! It does an amazing job in immersing the reader in the story further.

I’m not sure what I was expecting for my first Kristoff read – but it delivered lol I received an arc for EOTV but it’s more of a sampler – that is freaking 400 + pages long I believe. It took me a while to get through it and I will still need to pick it back up to finish the last chunk. Here’s what I found while reading EOTV though:
• It is just a dark and atmospheric as one would expect (or should) for a vampire read
• I thought the idea of a dialogue between two characters speaking about the past would be boring. It wasn’t. It’s like an interview/recording of a biography, but the events that Gabriel (the mc) has to tell us are not boring in the slightest. Or at least not to me.
• There was not a lot of smut in this first half of the book. There are perhaps two scenes that were…interesting. There’s some very unique kissing going on. Make of that what you will lmao
• The found family trope is one of my favorites and I loved seeing it included in the story. My heart is broken because of the same trope as well.
• Gabriel De Leon is a hard man to pin down. He’s definitely a morally grey character – I just couldn’t really tell just how morally grey he truly is. His character is very unpredictable; he is careful about what he reveals and when and also what he does and why. There is one character that Gabriel speaks very vaguely about and we don’t really get much more information in the sampler about this person and the nature of the relationship between them. And I need to know about it!!!!
• The ending of the sampler ends with a few revelations and reveals that I didn’t see. Plot Twist actually worked on me.
I don’t think the conclusion of EOTV is going to disappoint with anything beyond making me highly upset at Mr. Kristoff for his actions. I’m lowkey already a little salty.
