I am a big Freida McFadden fan but this book wasn't among my favourites by her so far. Brooke really got onto my nerves at times and the plot twist didn't make me jump as much as in her other books I've read. Not a bad read but not outstanding either.

Brooke Sullivan is a nurse practitioner who takes a job in a maximum-security prison and moved back to her childhood home since her parents passed away, which she hasn’t stepped foot in for 10 years’.
Told in past and present POV’s, Brooke shares her story from the night that changed her life, when her friends were murdered, at her high school sweethearts farmhouse.
Brookes testimony put her then boyfriend, Shane Nelson in prison for the rest of his life and now she is working in the same prison where he is being kept. Being back in her hometown, having to treat the man who killed her friends and tried to kill her, brings back lots of memories from that night but did Brooke get the killer wrong?
I love Freida’s books and her writing style, you can always count on her for a fast-paced, page turning story. There is ALWAYS a plot twist at the end and this epilogue WOW, I did not expect that!

3.5. I was right in trusting my instincts with this one. Dont believe the suspect they want us to think. And poor Brooke.. “hey so I know I said this guy tried to kill me and I sent him to prison for life, welp turns out it’s not him. It’s this other guy… Oh wait JK! It’s actually the first guy that I first said and you released from prison and the 2nd guy that’s sitting in jail right now? He actually is innocent!
