Although short, this novella is packed with emotion and loaded with allegory. It's an adventure from the first page to the last. The pace felt rushed and the ending was appropriate for a book much longer in length, but I loved the story and its characters.

i listened to the audio book which i think added to my enjoyment b/c the narrator was so lovey to listen to, but i agree with the general sentiment that the ending feels off. i think an end like that could have worked for a longer book, but it was far too easily obtained. i am somewhat willing to forgive this because the book is more meant to be about Binti herself then inter planetary war and politics, and that simply wasnt the direction the author was going for, but i also think the book is overall weaker for it.

At less than 100 pages, Binti is packed with tons of creativity, and I loved the world Nnedi Okorafor created. Binti herself as a character is sympathetic and relatable, while also giving us an insight into a human culture that can still at times seem "alien" to many of us. On the downside, perhaps due to the length, I felt that the events of the story were quite rushed, and some things that could have done with more explanation or exploration were brushed over too quickly. I'm definitely going to continue the series, though, and hope that the longer length of the subsequent books helps with this aspect.

This is a well told speculative fiction story. I identified with the main character, and felt with her on her journey. I also enjoyed the message of the story, which speaks to a better future for humanity. Definitely worth the read.
