I loved the first one alot but this was definitely stronger in every regret. The sex scene was hotter, the characters were more defined and the dynamics and plot were well established, moreso than is usually possible in less than 50 pages.

Interesting, entertaining, a bit unbelievable - I didn't get any sense of Garrett's attraction (and barely any of Noel's) until that moment in the car and then it's heavy all at once - but I like his characters and how he explores them.

The second short story in the Encounters series—a collection of three 10,000 words short stories—by Jack Harbon is my absolute favourite of the series, and it’s the one I’m going to be thinking about the longest.

Noel, a YouTuber with thousands of fans that have allowed him the freedom to travel the world making vlogs for a living, has an enormous thorn in his side in the shape of his new stepbrother, Garrett, who is cocky, conceited and always rubbing it in his face. When he returns to his family home after his latest trip and finds Garrett in his bedroom, he’s ready to start a war.

But when the two men find a way to settle their differences, they suddenly find themselves getting closer than they ever would have imagined.

And oh, how good that closeness is. Like, SO good.

I have to admit that at the very beginning of this book, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. The way that Noel and Garrett seemed to hate each other was too much for me. I couldn’t see how they were possibly going to come together, and I’m not a big fan of hate-fucking. But holy hell, I was worried for nothing because the SECOND they started and to work things out, I was into it.

I was SO into it.

Noel and Garrett have these perfectly opposing lifestyles and attitudes that fit together so well the second that they let it. Not only that, but when they (read: Noel) aren’t fighting, they get along really, really well. The second we uncover the root of Noel’s dislike, I immediately started cheering them on.

Especially Garrett, who reacted AMAZINGLY well.

I really, really enjoyed that we got a second for the two of them to become… not friends, not quite, but to clear the air. The way that Garrett shows his care for Noel makes everything so much sweeter when they finally get together.

And when they finally get together? FUCK it’s so good.

I actually really, really love that there was still a competitive edge to their banter, because honestly it just made the hot fucking even hotter. The connection between these two is SO good, and there really is this… fond competitiveness that is absolutely stunning to read and see unfold.

I know I said that the erotica in The Babysitter is some of the best I’ve ever read, but… well, I hadn’t read this one at the time. The sex here (which includes some FANTASTIC topping from the bottom, fuck) is absolutely amazing.

I’m actually really frustrated that this one was only 10,000 words long. With a happy-for-now ending, I was genuinely wanting a happily-ever-after. I NEED Noel and Garrett to fall in love and navigate a budding relationship. I NEED them to move into Garrett’s house together. I NEED Noel to drop little hints in his YouTube videos for his fans (and Garrett’s dad) to figure out.

Gah. Gah! GAH! I want more!!!

(Side note, I love the family angst and Noel’s best friend SO MUCH. They make this book so much richer.)

With that said, this book gets the same recommendation as the last one. If you're looking for a short, hot read that will leave you with a smile, I promise this is the book for you!

Short and spicy for sure but I would have liked just a bit more.

I liked this one a little bit more than book one. It’s a step brother romance, with a separate plot line about the mother smothering the step son and belittling her own son. I liked that side plot and the character development it bought to the story, but it felt a bit stunted and over the top at times. The smutty scene and tension was great though. I said romance before, but this is more just a short steamy book about a sexual interaction, rather than a romantic story, so go in with that in mind.

Really hot, really quick novella and I really enjoy this authors writing. The characters in this are both super sassy and I was here for it.

Kinda fell flat in comparison to The Babysitter. It was still good, just as good.
