This book was sweet, cute and wholesome but it lacked some things I loved from the author's debut.
This may be because I'm rewatching Gilmore Girls atm but the plot gives me the same vibes as the show in a way - Maybell inherits a home from her great grandmother but learns she has to share ownership with the grumpy groundskeeper, Wesley. While cleaning up the home she starts to dream of restoring it to what it once was - an inn named Falling Stars - all while slowly falling for Wesley. Overall a great premise but it lacked in execution and was boring at times.
I really liked Wesley as a love interest. He was so caring and thoughtful, and I appreciated having a LI with anxiety. However Maybell was just ok - kinda forgettable and nothing really makes her stand out.
The "third act" was kinda short lived and super late in the book to where it felt rushed.

Blech. I wanted to DNF this one early on, but a lot of the reviews said you needed to stick with it through the first half. Sadly, I should’ve gone with my gut, as there was honestly nothing I enjoyed about this book. 😕 Our female MC has created a VERY robust fictional world that she lives in, and this element was cringe AF and waaaay too prevalent throughout the book. 😬 If not for the fact that both leads were going on 30 and inheriting a house, the book felt YA to me…and honestly sometimes even middle grade. You have them passing notes while literally sitting across from one another, multiple scenes where they can’t look each other in the eyes while speaking, and playing games like hide and seek and I spy together. 🤔 I guess some might think this sweet, but it wasn’t for me and definitely not what I’m expecting in an adult romance novel. 🤷🏻♀️
Sarah Hogle has DONE IT AGAIN!!! please stop making fall in love with your characters i am not strong enoughhh
This book is so sweet it HURT. I think I teared up at least 6 times, maybe even more. I am just. Full of emotions. RTC
