“Rain is the perfect weather condition for a love story, so naturally, it must be raining at the conclusion of it.”
This book was super short and cute! This has been a highly anticipated read for me since reading and LOVE Hogle’s debut; You Deserve Each Other.
This book felt just as unique as You Deserve Each Other, which is a big part as to why I liked it as much as I did. I also loved exploring Wesley’s social anxiety. It’s not often that I read about a character who struggles with that, so that was a nice touch.
The story was well paced and sentimental, while also being quite fluffy! I loved watching Maybell and Weasley go from being unsure of one another, to becoming close friends, and then of course, finally falling in love. It took them SO long to kiss, I was dying! But Wesley is probably the sweetest human being ever, I need all males to be as sweet as him!
The only thing I really didn’t like was Maybell’s daydreaming. I get that we all do it, and we all should, but hers felt extremely childish for her age and felt more like she was dissociating than anything else. Maybe that’s just the social worker in me talking?
I would love to read more of their story, especially with their hotel/animal sanctuary!
“It feels like fate. The best myth of them all.”

(4.5⭐️) Taylor Swift Songs: “sweet nothing”, “everything has changed (tv)”!! I’m switching it up and adding a taylor-adjacent song (from the Hannah Montana movie that she was in), but the song “Dream” by Miley Cyrus perfectly describes this book.
Holy crap how did I wait this long to read this book?? If you love slow-burn, grumpy/sunshine, and forced proximity you will LOVE this!! I instantly fell in love with the premise and the characters! Maybell inherits her aunt’s old house, but she has to share it with the groundskeeper who the aunt also left it to. They have to learn to live with each other, despite their completely different dreams and aspirations for the property. This book is full of character growth and overcoming grief as well as being such a sweet romance/Romcom. This book was giving such Hannah Montana movie/Miley Cyrus summer vibes!! It made my heart melt and I wanted to cry happy tears!!
I LOVED Maybell and her journey of sticking up for herself and not accepting people who hurt her or treat her poorly. It was so empowering to see her character arc, where she completely girlbossed and cut the toxic people out of her life. There is something so incredibly satisfying and saccharine-sweet about seeing the male lead, Wesley, slowly open up to Maybell. As someone with intense social anxiety, I found this portrayal of it to be so honest. It is comforting to know that someone struggles with the same things that I do, and seeing him slowly go on a journey of acceptance and letting himself know that he is worthy of love exactly how he is, was heartwarming. This book is healing me, it was like a warm hug, so thank you Sarah Hogle. I adore this book, and anything that Sarah Hogle writes, and I regret taking this long to read it.
Age rating: 13+ (adult characters but not steamy/smutty)

Will not finish. Gave up at around 47% mark.
I do not have the energy or patience for quirky girls who are Not Like Other Girls. And I don’t usually rate books I didn’t finish, but I’m so annoyed that I wasted hours of my life on this drivel so… fuck it.
Edit (Nov 19, 2021): Upon reading other 1-star reviews of this book, I've learned that Maybell is 30 years old. Maybe I missed that tidbit of information because I was blinded by rage and disgust, but knowing that it was a grown ass woman behaving that way (e.g. painting walls with watercolor, ghosting her job instead of quitting properly, digging holes in the dead of night in the hopes of finding treasure)? My hatred for Twice Shy has doubled in size and in intensity.
