I enjoyed this book, especially at the time of reading, we happened to be in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis. The opening few paragraphs are particularly chilling and one wonders how James Rollins predicted the current world events so accurately, right down to the virus being caused by a bat.
The book seemed a bit longer than some of his others, but the pace was spot on.

As with the rest of his novels, I absolutely loved 'The Judas Strain.' Rollins has an incredible ability to combine obscure bits of historical facts, modern science, and general special forces shtick into intelligent, fun, incredibly interesting thrillers. And, he's not a half-bad writer, to boot. Highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys high-paced action, and a plot whose basis is only a half-step away from plausible.

At least my third or fourth read. While formulaic, the Sigma Force books never fail to entertain. This one has some well due character development.

The Sigma Force series gets better with each book. Though I'm re-reading the series from the start, I found The Judas Strain to be a great read the second time around.

I needed a distraction, so I picked up this book.
That's what these books are... low investment entertainment... and that's not a bad thing. It's fast paced action-adventure with science and history mixed in.
Sigma force, the covert super-spy agency is battling a would be pandemic this time around. A virus from the depth of the ocean that turns healthy bacteria deadly. A team of Sigma force is figuring out the virus. On the other side, the Guild is working on it too, trying to figure out the virus so that they can weaponize it.
Another team of Sigma Force is following up on the historical aspect of the virus which is tied to the travels of Marco Polo. This has more of an Indiana Jones or Lara Croft kinda feel to it where they are solving riddles and raiding tombs and temples.
seichan is with Grey helping him follow the trail...and there seems to be a budding romance there.
Also, Grey's parents are also in on the action, drawn into the fight between the Guild and Sigma Force.
All in all, it's a fast-paced action-adventure. The only complaint I have is the length of the novel - it's almost 19 hours long... it could have been shorter.

Another over the top thriller with a plague from the time of Marco Polo being unleashed by The Guild. Sigma has a two pronged attack via the historical and scientific trails. We visit Rome, Istanbul, DC, Christmas Island, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Iran.
