Far into the future a time traveler tries to identify and correct an anomaly but faces a difficult challenge: if he knows some people he will interact with are going to die, and he wants to save them, will he be prohibited from further time travel because he’s changed the timeline of the world? I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its unique storytelling techniques and plot. It was so much better than her first book, The Last Night in Montreal.

Absolutely loved.

“We knew it was coming but we behaved inconsistently.”

“Is there an unease that’s specific to the sense of an invisible bureaucracy in motion around you?”

I found this book to be just ok. Despite the considerable hype and its mass appeal, I didn't feel a personal connection to it. While it was well-written, clever, and held my interest, it ultimately felt flat. The characters seemed overshadowed by the focus on time-travel intricacies, resulting in a lack of emotional depth.

This could be a life, he finds himself thinking. It could be as simple as this. No family, no job, just a few simple pleasures and clean sheets to fall into at the end of the day, a regular allowance from home. A life of solitude could be a very pleasant thing (7).

There's a low-level, specific pain in having to accept that putting up with you requires a certain generosity of spirit in your loved ones (116).

I enjoyed this book and smashed through it but found it all a bit surface level.
