I can’t believe I AM (!) saying this but there was FAR TOO MUCH SMUT IN THIS BOOK!!!!! ending sentence goes hard tho

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This review is as painful to write as reading this book was. I loved how this series started but this 4th book is just too long, not enough editing done - if it was 50% shorter maybe it might of saved it. The will power it took to not DNF was next level - the only thing that kept me going was my love of the Blood and Ash series and this books connection to it’s back story.

Got through it by listening to go to sleep & while doing chores. Says something that I still didn’t miss any of the plot because most of it is Sera’s repetitive internal monologue.

Anyways rant over, I hope Jennifer does not butcher the Blood and Ash series like she did this one.

I originally gave this book 3.5/5 but the more I think about it after finishing it, the more annoyed I get. I re-read the first 3 books before picking this up, I was invested in this story and I’m angry I wasted my time.

So, around 70% deep we find out Sera is pregnant. There were hints throughout the whole book alluding to her pregnancy, so the reader realises way before Sera does, which pissed me off. Not only do we find out she’s pregnant, we also find out that they conceived the first or second time Sera and Ash had sex. So, she has been pregnant throughout the whole series basically. Be so for real right now!!! The fact that the series is supposedly only over the span of 12 weeks… Not good. I hate the pregnancy trope, she is only 20 years old!!! Not to mention, a lot happens after these books finished, so why did we have to focus on the pregnancy? Am I missing something? Why couldn’t this have waited until after the series ended?

The dialogue was cringy too at some points. I wish we had more of Attes and Lailah too. The whole fight with Kolis lasted one chapter and he was captured very easily. All of the inner circle basically became the new primals.. like ok.

The plot and info dumping was too much. So much information that didn’t matter at all, and I didn’t understand most of it? Idk if I’m stupid or what but the lore was too much to keep up with in 4th book. Boring. Found myself skim reading a lot and having to go back to re-read.

I’m severely disappointed :(

there were many times while reading this book that i got the urge to stop and never return but i am simply too nosy for that to happen. there were a lot of scenes that had nothing to do with the overall plot of the story that definitely could have been taken out. the beginning dragged on for a very long time but once we got into the action it was very interesting. it was nice to finally know how the characters in the fbaa series got to where they are as of now. i may need to do a reread of the original series but i really don’t understand how malec became who he was with parents like ash and sera especially after all of the promises they made to each other regarding their kids.

Interesting premise, fairly engaging toward the end when the action ramped up. It had a lot of exposition disguised as dialogue and way too much spice for me.
