Too much lore and pointless conversations fo force a character development that we already know it is coming and have seen in the previous books

Too long, repetitive, more spice than I would like (it seemed so random at times). Still like this story better than FBAA. Quick and easy to get through.

This may be the biggest mixed bag that I've ever read. The first 65% of the book is largely uneventful and is just sort of...there. It isn't bad or boring, just not on par with how the rest of the series reads. Stuff happens, Sera's post-Kolis trauma is understandably affecting her, and Ash is there to comfort and rage, but it wasn't exactly engrossing reading material. BUT THEN, you hit the last 35% and, boy howdy, you better buckle up because it finally gets good! The last 35% was totally a 4.5 level read for me. I personally felt like Armentrout didn't need to marinate the story as long as she did before the action really started. Born of Blood and Ash could have been a much stronger read. I found it grating how Sera was constantly telling people not to bow to her; I lost count of how many times it happened.
It's tricky for me to rate this fourth Flesh and Fire novel, since it was such a mixed bag. The first 65% was 2/2.5 stars for me (okay/slightly above okay), but the last 35% was easily 4.5. Multiplying it out, 1.3/1.625 + 1.575 gives it a range of 2.875 to 3.2, so I'm going with 3 stars.
