Excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The twists and turns kept me wanting to read more. Extremely excited to see how the stories of Rielle and Eliana continue in Kingsbane.

- I finished this Audible in a day, pretty much listened nonstop. (On 1.5-2x speed).

- I loved the characters—all except maybe Corien the creepy villain who doesn’t have any depth, yet.

- Loved the alternate POVs, which kept me from getting bored, though some might not enjoy constantly being left hanging off a cliff.

- The pace, I loved via Audible. I loved the movement of the story, though there were times I had to rewind because it’s definitely not a read you can get distracted from, since a scene won’t continue until the one after the next.

- I really liked the world, and the fact that the series is going to be about dark angels! I can’t wait to see how it all turns out, even though we technically know how one of the heroine’s (anti-heroine’s) storyline ends thanks to that explosive prologue.

- Rielle, I connected with the most, because though she possesses great power, she is so vulnerable--the product of a childhood rife with trauma and isolation.

- Eliana, I also connected with and loved, even though there was a solid chunk of the novel when I wanted to run her through for all the stupid decisions she made. She fights and loves hard, though, and I respect her for that.

- Both the heroines are selfish, bloodthirsty, power hungry, fierce beings and I loved reading their POVs.

- The love stories are on the more mature side, so go in knowing this is more New Adult then Young Adult. Hey, the sex is as detailed as the violence.

- A mix of Susan Ee’s "End of Days", "Once Upon a Time", and other fantasy YAs. Nothing really shocked me about the plot, so for me the pull was character development and seeing the why, also getting to know the world. But I have high hopes for the next installment now that the foundation has been laid for some epic showdowns.

**** 4 stars for a pure-fun fantasy read.

Furyborn is the story of two women, a thousand years apart and their roles in either saving or dooming a kingdom. Of course, there is a prophecy, a cool magic system, and angels involved... all the elements of a perfect escapist fantasy read!

Overall, I found this to be a really fun, engrossing, and fast-paced book. The opening scene immediately hooked me and the action continued at a pace that kept me engaged throughout. However, I think my favorite part of this book was the moral ambiguity of the two main characters, Reille and Eliana. Neither was a clear or traditional heroine, although they were both powerful and were clearly “the chosen ones” in their times. I liked that this book really delved into what makes a person good or bad. Reille and Eliana have both redeeming qualities and faults, but the perceptions and pressures of those around them is actually what pushes them towards their inner good or inner bad in varying degrees.

There were some weakness in the book though. Some of the secondary characters (cough Audric/ Tal/ Harkan cough) were painfully boring and I was not invested in them at all. Audric was so boring in this book that it made Reille and her motivations a bit hard to relate to at times.

“The Wolf followed, his body towering over her. He ripped Nox and Tuora from her belt and pressed Tuora’s blade against her throat, then dropped his gun and kicked it away…
‘Dread,’ he murmured, his breath caressing her cheek, ‘is only a feeling, easily squashed. But wolves, my dear, have teeth.’”

This book was super boring and couldn’t keep my attention, so I switched to audiobook listening, which saved it from being a DNF. The first thing I didn’t love was that they have guns in this book. It throws the fantasy element off for me. Next, the writing is…not the best. It’s very unclear at times. Third, I HATED the first chapter. It essentially spoiled the whole book and took a huge chunk of tension out of the story. Finally, the characters can’t make up their damn minds??? Oh, I want you. Nevermind, we can’t be together. Nevermind, we will be together. All of this on the same page!!! By the way, I don’t think this book can be considered YA with the spice in it. Overall, this book is entirely forgettable. I honestly don’t even want to finish the trilogy because I couldn’t care less about what’s happening or the characters. 2.75 stars, wouldn’t recommend.

Hmm.. 2.5 - 3 stars. Not sure so far.

I wasn't a huge fan of it, though. I didn't like the 2 points of views, if was confusing at times. The story was painfully slow and dragging at the beginning.

Not to mention the hype around it, didn't get that either.
