What a ride. So off the bat, I completely agree with what the majority of people are saying: the beginning was super doper good, and the rest that followed was less super doper good. I will say I really liked the ending half-ish part of the book, and I thought the action scenes (and there were many) were quite well-written. I ping-ponged between 3 and 4 stars, because I struggled quite a lot with the majority of the book's middle. You get introduced to these character and scenarios but their personalities suffer from in a "tell and not show" fashion. I couldn't really pick out key (UNIQUE) parts of Rielle even though she's the main character, and I found the other MC (already forgot her name but it starts with E) pretty average in terms of bad-ass-assassin-character-with-troubled-past-and-trust-issues-but-has-an-affection-for-family-she-has-to-protect-and-also-loses-fights-to-hot-guys. I actually didn't mind Simon being a typical Flynn Rider love interest, but it took til that end half for me to actually develop emotions toward the characters.

There were a lot of themes in here as well. Multiple perspectives and major time jumps (though I think it was well executed), a map that isn't really necessary, angels and elemental powers. I will say, there was one moment where the characters were doubtful of angels being present, and I was like "You have a prophecy that talks about these things AND A PERSON WITH ELEMENTAL POWERS. What are the rules of believability in this universe??" I digress.

I didn't dislike the book; in fact, I may even be interested in the sequel. And I think early YA novel readers could really come to like it (though I wouldn't necessarily suggest it due to the intimacy scenes), but for me it read a bit unedited.

I would say 4.5 stars. I just know the second book is going to be amazing. This book was fast paced and wild. I love all of the characters which is insane for me. Usually there is someone who is lacking but not here. I’m loving the world and the two different stories. I do wish that Simon had stayed a little colder. More rough around the edges since Audric is such a cinnamon roll. I love how both women, 1000 years apart, are so alike but yet different. I cannot wait to see how this story unfolds. Side note: so many amazing little phrases. A very quotable book.

I just finished this two seconds ago and I'm never going to be over this. I've honestly never read any of Claire's other books (however that will change now) but Furyborn has blown me away.

Her storytelling skills are earth-shaking and spellbinding and full of life, romance, action, and despair. I've been waiting to read this for a while and this has without a doubt been one of my favorite books ever. Lemme just say THE HYPE IS REAL.

Alright so on to the story. Fantasy is not necessarily something I know a lot about. I haven't read most fantasy titles so let that be known. With that being said, I loved this story. Before I read it, I read some other reviews all mixed. One bad review talked about the difficult of keeping up with two timelines 1000 years apart. I have to disagree, I quite enjoyed the mini cliffhangers between chapters and it only fueled my desire to freaking finish the next chapter! I loved how the beginning was set up with just enough information so that readers can pick out the relationships between the characters.

Also, I loved the characters! Corien is like a bad guy I hate to love tbh and maybe I'm alone in that but I hate him and love him though mostly hate. Audric is just DAMN. But Simon? Yeah he's my favorite.

Rielle at first was hard for me to like but as the trials went on and her inner turmoil got worse and her love for Audric grew I was enjoying her. Her love for Audric is a tricky thing that I LOVE bc she's so selfish and that is so human and relatable. Ugh.

Eliana is a fucking badass, and towards the end it is so cool to see how she is totally her mothers daughter and also completely not and more like her father.

As for the Angels, can I just quickly say how much I miss that sort of fantasy? I love paranormal semi-religious rooted fantasy so I enjoyed that.

All in all, 5 out of 5 you need to read this shit. Amazing. Ugh in love.

Furyborn is as intriguing as it is confusing. Layers of detail are neither thrown at the reader, nor sewn into the story with great care; often, I found myself wondering if i had managed to miss a detail until it happened too many times. I can see why Legrand kept coming back to this project, there is something special here, but it could have, perhaps should have, been a lot stronger. I will be reading the sequel because I really enjoyed the characters.

It's an okay read. Fun story but definitely seems more spicy than expected for a YA book

The prologue was amazing and then everything else afterwards was distinctly not great. Why did the adults never think to train the “all powerful special one” who’s already demonstrated her ability to kill, and instead responded with the Elsa-esque “conceal don’t feel” trope. Mehhh.

DNF at page 69 :/

“She was supposed to be the Sun Queen, their savior and protector. And yet she had become the Blood Queen. The Kingsbane. The Lady of Death.”

Such a great story. I had great, beautiful moments reading it. Can't wait for the next book.
