Jason Reynolds loves middle school kids. This lovely little book is 10 chapters/tales long. At first they read as short stories, but on tale two, you realize that they are all interconnected by a few specific details, dropped like easter eggs into each story. It's genius. This book perfectly captures what I love so much about middle school kids--their honesty, their loyalty, their anxieties, the way they tease one another, the way they try to cover up their fears, the way they stand up for one another. Do yourself a favor and read it. It will bring you back to your own middle school days, and, hopefully, it will help you understand what it is about middle schoolers that my tribe of middle school teachers and I love so much about them.

This was so cute, so refreshing! Middle grade is not just for middle graders, and reading this book made me feel a lot of things... So well written, I highly recommend!

This was like Chicken Noodle Soup for the Soul but all about how "a school bus is many things. So is a walk home,"

Jason Reynolds is magic. I chose this book to read with my 7th/8th graders (most of them dyslexic) this semester, and before we even got to the end of the first story, they were laughing, making personal connections, and repeatedly telling me they loved this book already. They had so much fun finding the connections between the stories, whether they were specific scenes, or characters, or words, or images. I’m so grateful for Jason Reynolds & his books- my students love him & have found way more love of reading because of him.

Ten journeys home, ten narratives which meet at corners and stop signs, ten sets of characters whose stories are told through the movements and motives of just one route. I wanted to know so much more about these kids and their lives - What did Sandra say? Did Satchmo get bitten by another dog? Did Stevie ever get to apologise? But then, I guess it's always better to leave a reader wanting more ...

This book is a set of ten vignettes centered around a radius of a few blocks around an area school. From best friends that steal pocket change to a skateboarding girl who wants to be like her sister and a young boy who is worried about his mother, they are all heartwarming and draw the reader in. It was great to see how the characters from each story may pop up in the background of other stories.

Jason Reynolds does it again, and for a more middle grade audience. The stories are well written, with each having its own voice and feel as the community deals with the different aspects of their lives after school. Perfect for 6th and 7th graders, probably even some 5th graders.

Accurately captures how corny and not funny middle-schoolers are

My review is going to make this book sound super somber and heavy, and while it definitely touches upon some serious topics, it tackles them mostly via lighthearted scenarios and with legit lol moments

Jason Reynolds is just so good. I mean, of course he is nominated for a national book award almost every year. He is that good.
