Fairly good novel about the problems with overpopulation in the world; however, I found it to be pretty poor in the world building area. The story was mediocre with a murder mystery thrown in to boot. And there were a few diatribes about religion and abortion, which though relevant, didn’t add to an entertaining story. Just average in my opinion, but this is “the classic SF book to read” from Harrison.

Two surprises - first, the legendary twist from the film version, Soylent Green, is not in the book.
Second - this bleak dystopian novel, that feels like a proto cyberpunk novel, minus computers, is quite excellent.

Horrible but probably only too true view of an overpopulated future. Quite a good read though rather depressing

The inspiration behind the movie Soylent Green, although lacking the famous twist. It is definitely a product of it's era, complete with fun casual sexism. But, the message is still poignant and it was a quick read so I can't complain. Depressing.

I've loved the movie Soylent Green since I first saw it and, when I discovered it was based on a book I knew I had to read it! It took a while to get my hands on the book, but I'm so glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of this book and will be recommended to everyone.

This is definitely a cautionary tale about overpopulation. And I adore Sol's speech about death control and birth control.
