This wasn’t exactly what I expected, and I'm glad. It’s a story of a married close-to-middle-aged woman with two kids who, after a failed attempt at making a living as an artist, decides to go back to work in an office. She quickly befriends her (older, female) boss and that friendship turns to more. I thought this was going to be a sweet love story where we ignore the fact that the main character is actually cheating on her husband, but instead it just felt so real to me. In fact, it reminded me of Spanglish (one of my favorite movies) in that regard … where… it hurts, and it’s awful, but you also get it. I also really liked that the book took place over a number of years, so it wasn’t some unrealistic summer fling that we’re suddenly supposed to believe these people are soulmates, ya know? Anyway, highly recommend this one.

Wow I liked this SO much more than I thought I would. Has a lot of the same energy of a Sally Rooney novel except there are likable characters. Also the tension/romance was EXCELLENTLY done.
