Captivating as you really explore the inner conflict of Merit’s unwavering desires versus her commitment to her family and husband. Big time skip and twist at the end.

well I ate that up! this book kind of had 'the devil wears prada' vibes, but make it actually gay. I didn't enjoy the last quarter as much as the first three, but I enjoyed reading about middle aged women becoming aware and then disillusioned about the cisheteronormative lives they'd built for themselves b/c they thought that was all there ever was. I like that it was told exclusively from merit's pov—it made it read very quickly and touched on a lot of interesting crossroads and messy contradictions people can have

I liked the idea of this book and liked where it was headed at first, but towards the end, instead of getting too complicated, the story just jumps to five years later and I have so many questions about what happened in those five years.

This is a twisty tale of a working mom who is in the midst of transition.  Does she want a third child?  Does she want to switch her job's focus?  Is she happy in her life, or is there something more in store for her...  Compulsively  page turning.

I will never be a fan of the cheating trope, but I thought McBrayer did about as well as someone could writing it without demonizing everyone involved. Her writing was very good, but I wish there was more character growth for the main character and a better ending that detailed how it came about. Still, overall an enjoyable read.
