"I'm not the monster they think I am. Not all dark witches are bad."
I was lucky to get an ARC copy of Jessalyn Thorn's book Departed Whispers.
Jessalyn Thorn is J Rose's paranormal romance/fantasy pen name.
J Rose has become an auto-buy author for me. So, I was excited to try something different from her.
Departed Whispers is a paranormal reverse harem romance. I haven't read a lot of paranormal romances before, so this was a first for me, and I was pleasantly surprised.
As soon as I read that first sentence, I knew this would be the perfect story for me.
Emery, Luther, Atticus, and Kody have all been through so much in their lives, especially when it comes to their families.
I loved the whole found family aspect of their story and how the boys accepted Emery for who she is, black magick and all. Isn't that all anyone wants to be loved and accepted for who they are no matter what?
I enjoyed reading about the witches, dark and light magick, demons, chain mail, and everything else that happened in the book.
The story ended abruptly on a cliffhanger, leaving you with more questions than answers. I would have loved it if the author had written about what happened during the time that follows that cliffhanger. Instead, you get to the epilogue with a thirteen-year time jump.
Thank you so much to Jessalyn Thorn and @peachykeenas for this ARC

I have received an ARC of this book, but I did pre-order it as soon as it was announced because I love everything J. Rose has written so far.
Departed Whispers is the third book in the Twisted Legends Collection and it can be read as a standalone. Just like all her other books, this one is a dark one. It is a paranormal reverse harem romance that includes witches and demons.
“I have always been more comfortable with the dead over the living. Less complications.”
The story follows Emery and her three childhood best friends who have to work together in order to save Reaper’s Hollow. Emery is a really well-written character. The way she holds herself doesn't change once her best friends come back into the picture and I loved that so much.
"Whether we live or die, I don't give a damn. As long as I die with you in my arms, I'll happily walk through the gate of Hell, hand in hand.”
The plot of the book was amazing, although there were moments when I felt like the pace of the story slowed down and there wasn't much happening. But the twists and turns kept me glued to the pages.
If you liked J. Rose's previous books or if you are a fan of paranormal romances then this one is most definetly for you.

This was a great story! It takes you on a crazy adventure from page one! Emery’s life has been full of running from the coven trying to kill her for being born with dark powers. As a child, she met three boys who befriended her, despite her powers, loving them so much that she leaves them for their own protection. Fast forward thirteen years and all hell is breaking loose(literally). The story kept me on the edge of my seat. The main characters were fantastically broken and beautiful at the same time. Loved the overall message of acceptance and forgiveness.
Departed Whispers by Jessalyn Thorn is a dark action packed paranormal reverse harem. Emery is a dark witch that has been on the run and hiding from the covens that practice white magic for years. However when some friends from the past come calling for supernatural help for Reapers Hollow, the only place she ever considered home, she's forced to revisit the past and the only people she ever considered family. Will she be able to stop running and help save the men she left behind?
This story is dark and delicious with morally gray characters! I absolutely loved the characters in this story; they were perfectly imperfect! They ALL had their baggage but it was OK because this story really focused on people being more than their mistakes and no one being perfect. There was suspense and action as Emmy tried to figure out what was trying to destroying her old town and then fight it! Plenty of spice as best friends now all grown up discover they aren't best friends anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed the inclusion of myths, folklore, and religion in this story making up some incredible world-building.
I rated Departed Whispers 5 out of 5 stars and was a little sad to leave the world and characters behind at the end. If you enjoy dark reverse harem romances with witches, second chances at love, and found family then you will LOVE Departed Whispers.

Loved
I loved every second of this book. I loved how we get multi POV’s, I love the men, and I adore Emery and her best friend Maude. This is a PNR RH with a sassy FMC, laugh out loud moments with steam.

I didn’t even realize that I was getting an ARC for this, but I’m so glad I did! J Rose’s books always blow me away and this one did not disappoint. I love everything about Emery. I love her attitude, style, and her craziness lol. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love crazy? Also, Luther?
