Smart, charming, beautifully written middle school level ghost tale. Unflinching death stuff, but thoughtful.

I think I've grown out of most MG unless it's horror or detective (this is more paranormal gothic).

It is a simple story that made me wish I had a ghost best friend. Unfortunately, I don't. So I am planning to continue my journey with Cass and Jacob.
“Embrace your strange, dear daughter. Where’s the fun in being normal?”
Also, her mom's strange! I wonder if my mom would ever say such a thing.

The majority of the story takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland, with an eerie description of the times gone by with unfriendly ghosts, the danger of treading the Veil, between life and death, was exciting.
A breezy read.
