As a fan of the Artemis Fowl series, I enjoyed this graphical interpretation of the first book quite a bit!

Let's discuss Holly Short. Specifically, the blatant whitewashing and sexualization of my biggest childhood hero since Hermione Granger. Book Holly has coffee brown skin, hazel eyes, and a spiky auburn crew cut. I also have a vague memory of her beating up a fellow officer for calling said crew cut "pretty". Graphic novel Holly is almost as white I am, sports a godawful brown pageboy haircut, and her suit is almost as cleavage minded as a schoolgirl in a fanservice above all anime. I'm pretty sure her ears are also impossibly huge. And in addition to all that, she is still the best drawn character in the entire graphic novel.

I was intrigued by the anti-hero premise, but this book was a “meh” read for me. I haven’t read the novels but I think this adaptation was missing the backstory and worldbuilding that would make a story like this work. All white human/humanoid characters. F & P Level Y.

I missed the Artemis Fowl craze when I was a kid and wanted to prep for the movie release this year. It's definitely a new take on the fantasy genre. What if Bruce Wayne, instead of fighting crime, pulled off heists against fairies and was kind of a jerk? I didn't fall in love with the characters or the story, but I'm not the target audience anymore, am I?

I loved this book. Yes, the artwork took some getting used to and it obviously didn't match the picture in my head I had of the characters, but I still really, really, enjoyed it. It was a fun quick read that was true to the original content. The colors were vibrant and easy to see and read. 5 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to read more.

2.5 stars. It was okay but I liked the text version much better.

Decent graphic version of the novel. Ten thousand times better than the unwatchable movie Disney made.
