Reading Artemis Fowl with illustrations a speech bubbles... still loved the story of Artemis, Butler, Holly and the rest of fairy control:)
I went on an Artemis Fowl binge recently, re-reading the book, listening to the audio book for the first time, and checking out the graphic novel version. Gotta say, I really liked the graphic novel. It's a condensed version of the story but Colfer collaborated on the adaptation with Andrew Donkin so it stays true-to-story. I personally loved the illustrations but can see why some might think they're slightly racy (Holly in particular) or strange (Butler's neck is the size of barrel). Another plus for me was the info sheets that pop up for pertinent characters or plot points (unintentional alliteration).

I never read the original novel but have been meaning to for years! Decided to check out the graphic novel instead and enjoyed it. I never realized what an asshole Artemis is...basically starts a war with the Fairies! #whitemen

The story is still amazing - of course - but I liked the book a lot more than the graphic novel.

I think I am way past the age to find this cool and throughout the whole reading I was just criticising the book- in the way that I could really tell that the author was really trying to appeal to his young male audience through the characterisation, storyline etc. But I can see why people (young kids) may like it. No childhood nostalgia factor to help in this rating. Sorry kids :(
I read the original book years ago, and my middle school students are reading it for book club. This graphic novel was a perfect way to refresh my memory of the characters and the plot in a short amount of time… I really didn't want to read it all over again! I was satisfied with the drawings and the text… No complaints.
Graphic novels based on actual novels aren't always a success. It's really difficult to turn a novel-length story into a 100-150 page graphic novel, for obvious reasons. But with this one, I think they did a great job. The story is easy to follow, no moments where things are left out or happen too fast and you're left wondering what on earth is going on. The illustrations are great, the characters don't look like what I imagined in my head, but this didn't lessen my enjoyment at all.
Bad Art ruined much of the fun, not a total waste but better read the original novel instead.
I felt really meh about this. I think I might have enjoyed the actual novel more. I felt like I had no background going in. It seemed like the middle of a story. And Artemis is kind of a dick.
