I wanted to re-read this one to compare it to the new graphic novel coming out soon. Evidently Disney has finally decided to do a movie - August 2019 - and so are re-issuing the book. After so many years, they need to remind their potential reader/audience of the basic plot and bulk up interest, you know. I'm not sure how optimistic to be.

I was a huge fan of the Artemis Fowl series as a kid but I only remember like 3 plot points from the hole series, this was a good refresher. The art is also very nostalgic to me because they used scenes from the graphic novel in the official Fowl music videos.

We changed POVs from the titular character to one who I don't know nor do I care about. Plus it was due back at the library and had a waitlist.

While I have read adult graphic novels like Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, I am not that familiar with graphic novels for kids. With the rise in popularity and publication of these books, I decided I should get up to speed with my students!
I decided to start with graphic novelizations of YA/children's books I have already read so that I could compare the original book to the graphic novel version.
This version of Artemis Fowl, criminal super genius, was surprisingly good. I thought the major plot points from the original book were maintained in the new format. The only thing I missed were the strings of Gnommish (elven language) across the bottom of the text, which appears in the original book. Eoin Colfer, Artemis' creator, adapted his book for the graphic novel, and it shows.
I had a few issues with the graphics because the illustrator's vision for the characters did not match with the vision in my head after reading the Artemis Fowl books. This is a common problem when I watch movie adaptations of books I have read, too!
The Artemis Fowl graphic novel would definitely interest my students in reading the full length book and vice versa.

It's the "first" of Artemis's adventures translated into graphic format. It's great for getting into the series, great for review, great addition to any AF collection, basically it's a great book.
The graphic is astonishing, being different, sort of sketchy and georgeously coloured. It's nice to see other people interpretions of these wonderful characters.
However, if you read this but not the novel, I advice you to read it. I imagine it not working well as a standalone piece.
