My true rating would be 4.9/5, I take that .1 away because the “love story” about Denna outstayed it’s welcome for me. I think Patrick did a great job at showing how madly in love Kvothe was with her, because it was starting to drive me mad with his constant mention of her and unending search for her in almost every chapter. But yet Patrick made it feel entertaining, and I couldn’t stop reading the book. It kept my attention and made me want more, and the ending has never made me want to read a sequel more since reading a Martin book. But I will savor this in my thoughts and my next book won’t be the wise man’s fear, I need to give my brain time to think of young Kvothe and appreciate the master piece I just read. This book did a great job laying the ground work, and will start the next addition once more word on the final book is revealed. I highly recommend going in blind, just how I did. The character progression is one of the best I’ve ever read and the prose is magnificent. Loved it.

Okay, I now understand what the fuss is all about. This is a ripping yarn, full of interesting characters and I came to really care for them. Looking forward to reading the others in the series.

This book was exceptionally well-written but it was odd that there was no resolution for any of the story lines. The story just ends in the middle of plots. I'll be very curious to see where it picks up and to further the story along but I would have liked some traditional story arc for the first part at least. Still highly recommended.

This is such an enthralling read. I've been in a reading slump for months and this is my first completed book since then. It took me so long to finish because I had other things going on, but I kept up with this story, thank goodness! I've never read a story within a story before and I thought it would end up being confusing. Time jumps haven't always been my thing because it takes me out of the story and I end up having to piece things together myself and figure out dates and times. It just ends up being too much. But this was so easy to follow. I realized that if done right, these sorts of books can be read smoothly and easily without confusion.

I will admit that there's A LOT of new terms and ideas in this story like with most high fantasy stories. A lot to do with elements and a extensive magic system. There's a lot of science stuff too, but the story itself made those things better instead of making me feel as if I was reading a medical journal or something.

The characters are all enjoyable as well. Even the ones that only make small appearances. Rothfuss has a way of making you know someone without having to know their entire life story. I got a feel for characters within just a couple of pages and a bit of dialogue. The world was also very detailed and I found it easy to move around it as if I was walking through the terrain myself. I could see and feel everything just as the characters did.

As for the story itself, it was so damn fun. At times I teared up because of tragic events, I bristled as someone got injured and I laughed to myself from the witty jokes. The characters weaved together so perfectly, and I could tell that the author took a VERY long time mapping out everything in detail.

I know that this is the first installment of a series and from that ending, I can tell it's about to get crazy intense. I got a hint of more fun and games, but also more danger and tragedy. I can't wait to continue and I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an adventurous story about a man who called the wind.

The reviewers weren’t kidding when they said not a word of the nearly-700-page book is wasted. I’m not usually the kind of girl that’s into series books, but you win, Patrick Rothfuss. Onto book #2...
