Hollow City

Ransom Riggs

First book was unique and such a fun read but not middle school appropriate. This one picks up immediately after the first one ends. Unfortunately this one, while fine for middle school, is a disappointing read. I felt that the author tried too hard to make the storyline fit all of the pictures he'd collected. Hopefully this is just a sophomore slump. Not sure I'll bother with book three though.

Wonderful. I am not sure how else to describe it.

The last few chapters really got to me. Especially Jacob's phone call with his dad.

Is it even possible for a second book in a trilogy to be better than the first or last book? YES (even though the third book has not come out yet). Though the first book was just as good and a great read, i felt that Hollow City was more developed. I fell in love with the characters more because I learned more about them; their strengths and weaknesses and I began to respect Jacob more as a main character. Riggs prose is just beautifully written, and I think it takes great talent to be able to make a story out of random pictures, so as a writer and artist Ransom Riggs has earned my respect.

The plot is more action packed in Hollow City and there were times that I just couldn't put the book down because I just HAD to know what happened next. This book deserved the five stars and I had no problem giving it.

But seriously when does the next book come out because I can't take the cliff hanger ending!AHHHH

Excellent! Riggs does a great job of making the mythology of the peculiars interesting and has created characters that I am very invested in.

I can't even... Please read this book

I generally quite enjoyed it! The romance between Emma and Jacob still feels a little forced to me, I feel like we don't see enough of it developing for me to really buy into it, but in general I quite like it and it was fun to get to know the other characters a little more!
