Just the right amount of spooky for me. I love the illustrations and the main character's narrative.
These books just keep getting better!!!!! The creativity within the pages of these books is fascinating, truly magical. If you have ever experienced reading a book and felt as though you have been warped into another world, then you'll know exactly what I mean when I say that that's EXACTLY what happened while reading Hollow City.
Ransom Riggs does it again, only better! This book is full of adventure, sarcasm, laughter, surprises and fright. Brilliantly written. Captivating page turner!!!! Seriously can't wait to read part 3: Library of Souls

I enjoyed the second book in the series. It was faster paced, but didn't have as much magic as the first book. Overall a good read.
Was a little confusing but JACOB can control hallows. Also Caul being the bird is a twist
This is the second book in the Peculiar Children's series. Did I like this book as much as I did love the first book? Not really. It was nice, it had gorgeous photographs (at times also creeping me out btw), but there were things I just didn't like.
The fact that we were told there weren't that many peculiars around, that finding them doesn't happen that often. Yet in this whole book we come across peculiar after peculiar. Which makes me happy, yeah more peculiars, but also makes me sad, because, well weren't they rare? Weren't they supposed to be protected because they were rare and all that?
I often had to check back to the first few pages since I didn't always know who was who. A lot of kids and only a few got a lot of lines, most just get used when the situation calls for it (for example Fiona). Which is a terrible shame, I really like the kids and their abilities and it is too bad that they don't get more chances to shine.
The whole romance thing. At times I found it cute and lovely, but I also felt it was out of place, like there are better times to kiss and love. Like when they were kissing on a rock where everyone could just plain see them.. *roll eyes*
There was one boy who kept complaining and whining about everyone and everything(see this is what happens to a too big cast, I forget names).
And also the totally cliché ending, I was so expecting that. That bird didn't act like that person at all.
I did like various things: Photographs (as said), the power/ability of our main guy (and how it grew), the fact this takes place in WWII, the idea of peculiar children/protectors who can change to birds.
All in all I enjoyed it, but I do hope the next book has a bit more fun and has more spotlights on the other kids.

A re-read from a decade ago. I enjoyed it just as much the 2nd time around.

This book picks up right where the first book ended. I found it difficult to get back into this series though because while the author has a brief list of characters and what they do, it had been so long since I had read the first book that it took me a while to remember who everyone was and how they related to Jacob. However once I got back into it, the book was a page turner and I would be reading the third book right away if it had already been published. I am not sure if I will get to the third book or not since it took so long to get back into this one.
I am finding this series delightfully entertaining. The author has a very creative imagination and throughout the book has incorporated multiple old type photographs that add to the enjoyment of the read. In this second book we find our group of Peculiar children embarking on an adventure to save Miss Peregrine from losing her human like qualities. Plenty of intense moments, lots of evils and twists of fate along the way. Fantasy writing takes us out of the realm of reality and into a world where anything is possible.
Oh my goodness. It kept building & building and the very last page was straight goosebumps up my arms. I can't wait to read the next one & find out what happens!
