I love this series! Twists and turns and keeping me on the edge of my seat.

Shock. Gasp. Becca rated a beloved book only 2 stars?!?!

Sigh.

I so badly wanted to like this more than I did. After the first book I was soooo excited to read more about these characters.

I felt like this book dragged on forever. I wasn't engaged, I wasn't connecting. This was so disappointing. Anytime I would finally enjoy a scene or moment, I would have to endure more pages of awful, boring stories.

Seriously.

Sigh.

SpoilerThe book finally picked up for me once they arrived in the tourism loop. Finally, we find Miss Wren! Oh wait, we need to join an army?! We can't possibly do that... oh wait, Emma wants Jacob to go home?!

OMG. I JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE.

SpoilerSo.. Miss Peregrine is not really miss peregrine? Okay, they got me, I wasn't expecting that... oh and I wasn't expecting Jacob to suddenly be parsel-tongued with the hollows, but at least it's something?

So... I have low expectations of book three and I hope it's better than two... because two was awful.

I'm sure I'm leaving out some things, but this is what is on my mind currently.

Reading these again for childhood me and she is loving it! So my review is seeping in bias. However, I will say it took some time for it to pick up and I felt like it was stalling. I enjoyed the ending twist. Fun!

A good page turner, definitely engaging.

Like the last book though.. there is something ,... peculiar about Ransoms writing. Maybe it's the fact that Jacob a teenager (or atleast a 19 year old) is obviously not a teenager. Jacob is Ransom and he speaks with the voice of a much older man trying to remember what it was like to be 17.

Which teenager says things like
* "running I knew not where, nor cared"
* "Even the fittest of us were flagging now"

There are similar problems with the way the other peculiar children talk ... the 1940's was a very different world , but a kid from the 2000s and these kids (or not kids) from the 1940's talk exactly like him...

I did appreciate the acknowledgement from the group that they are not "Innocent angels walking the earth" and the admonishment they got in the third act.

Overall though, I think that Ransoms books all have an interesting plot that he packs with non stop action and as such they become great page turners.

AUDIOBOOK: it’s been several years since I’ve read the first installment but it didn’t take too long to remember the storyline. Eerie and intriguing. I’m assuming how this ended that a third installment is coming. Highly recommend.

Exciting continuation of the series. I am hooked. It was hard to put down.

I am devouring these. They are great!
