This book was written really well, I laughed out loud multiple times, and was truly invested in the characters.
The author's writing is amazing, and I can't wait to read more of her books. I really was rooting for them protecting each other and I loved how much of a slow burn it was. I read it in one sitting, it was so entertaining!
I gave 4 stars because while I really loved this romance as a fiction book, Josh's behavior towards Lucy would not fly in real life. (atleast I sure as hell hope it wouldn't just be labeled as 'boys will be boys') It's juvenile to be cruel to the person you like. It left a bad taste in my mouth since the vitriol wasn't necessarily needed the way it was executed. She was treated like shit and we're supposed to just forgive him and have it glossed over without any genuine apology.
This feels more like a bully romance than an enemies to lovers.

If you have the UK version of this book, then you’ll see that it has the r-slur on page 358. Would not recommend, love interest is very creepy as well. Read ✨any other book✨ and it will be better than this. There are so many other enemies to lovers books out there.

Why do all romances have the guy with some mystery that they keep a complete secret until they’re at risk of losing the girl? Oh because it wasn’t convenient to tell her?

I usually pick up contemporary romance when I'm in a reading slump or I want a fast and fun read. Given that, I find that I enjoy the regular tropes and plot devices that are regularly used in this genre. In The Hating Game, Sally Thorne employs a number of this tropes (tiny woman - giant man, enemies to lover, office romance, hard guy is actually a softie etc etc etc), but I enjoy those aspects so it was a plus for me. I also liked how they didn't dance around each other due to too many miscommunication and other temporarily love interests (though there's a bit of both). All in all, it was an enjoyable read, and I raced through it. The rating is due to the fact that it doesn't add anything new to the genre or to the tropes that were used. The "big conflict" was also incredibly predictable and the build-up was therefore understandably anticlimactic.
