I am a huge fan of the first Jurassic Park film, but I despised this book. I had to push myself through the second half of this book. The science is interesting and the speculation about dinosaurs seemed well informed.

But this whole book is so depressing. So many characters die and the deaths are always described very graphically from the perspective of the dying characters. It’s not a fun time there isn’t much of a plot beyond ha ha look at humans fuck up nature.

Partially ported over from my now-abandoned Goodreads:
Listen. This one is a classic for a reason and you should give it a go. It might not be your thing, but if it is, it'll blow your socks off (as it did mine) with its themes, messages, and of course the DINOSAURS. Seriously. Well-thought-out exploration of the dangers of marketisation, the ethical implications of genetic manipulation, AND DINOSAURS. What's not to like? I love a good dinosaur, that's for sure. Can you tell I like this book? You might like it too. Check it out.

This is, and remains, one of my all-time favourite books. A dinosaur-filled cautionary tale worth suspending your disbelief for.

One of my all time favorite books, this is one I often reread! I personally really enjoy how the author, Michael Crichton, writes his books.

As someone who saw the movie well before reading the book, I greatly enjoyed the philosophical discourse the book has to offer. A tense thriller of "will they make it out alive?" sprinkled with "what got them here?"

If you're going into this book expecting a play by play of the movie, you're in for quite a surprise. Maybe that's why this book was a bit of a tough read for me since I knew it was different from the film but...wow.
The fact just about everybody dies before they explode the island- I'll be honest, I was not expecting that whatsoever
Overall, it was a good read. Incredibly tense and had me on the edge of my seat multiple times. I'll be honest though, I 100% could have done without Lex's character in this book. Crichton really captured the spirit of an annoying child because I was ready to strangle her at so many points. Aside from that, solid sci-fi read!

It was fun to read the book that started all the movies. It was a good read and it was interesting to know what was the same and what changed for the films.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did, especially since I had already seen the movie. But it was fun to read, a page-turner, and unique structurally. Sometimes it felt like there was too much of one person (usually Malcolm) just talking for way too long.
