**** The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods offers a dual timeline story that interweaves in the end. I loved how Woods showed how women can overcome overwhelming odds, interspersed the love of books and how book collectors think. I am still curious about the female landlady...perhaps I missed something, but she stays with me. Highly Recommend.

I found this book long and really struggled to finish it. I only kept reading for Opaline's story it was what kept me drawn in. Martha and Henry I found rather boring to be honest. Henry was supposed to be on this great search for a manuscript and lost bookshop but it seemed to focus more on his love life. As for Martha I'm not even sure what her point in the story was other than Mrs. Bowden obviously being an aparation of Opaline and the Bronte sisters lost manuscript being tattooed on her back.

I feel like the story could have easily succeeded without Henry's storyline and delving more into Martha's history and Opaline's family secrets and how it was interconnected.

there was so much potential in this book!! i really wanted this to be the kind of book you want to get lost in, in a wanderlust sort of way (because of the title) but truthfully, i was just plain lost.

it has magical realism, romance, historical fiction, new beginnings, the LOVE of books and being bookish, and a literary mystery. all things i love! but i wasn’t able to connect to the characters and the plot headed in a direction that didn’t match the vibes this book was trying to create.

so in all, my special edition is going to look beautiful on my bookshelf and be a pretty book to admire - but mostly from the outside and not necessarily because of anything in it.

“I couldn’t explain it, not even to myself, but books gave me an unflinching sense of stability and groundedness. That because words survived, somehow I would too.”

This was a sweet read about the magic and power of books. Follow three stories as they share their journeys around one little bookshop in Ireland. I am a sucker for some good history included in stories, and there was a bunch of it throughout this one. I will say, the magic element didn’t fit well for me - it didn’t detract from the story, but it left me puzzled. I recommend this as a sweet read to people who appreciate and understand the importance of books, and the stories behind books themselves.
