I really liked the book in the beginning. It introduces the characters well, and I liked the description style.
I hate how lengthy it is. I have no problem with lengthy books, but this one was unnecessarily long. There are too many details that just don't matter.
The payoff just wasn't worth it. It has most of the book in Buildup, but I just think for me, I didn't like how little the result was.

This could have been 4 stars for me, except for the pages and pages of tweets, chats, and social media posts. If I had read the physical book, I could have skimmed/skipped, but I listened to the audiobook and those parts were dull. I understand that social media is a big part to the story, but the content could have been pared down a lot while still keeping the whodunit mystery. I also wish the coda wrapped up a few questions, like how Anomie and Morehouse met. Overall good, not great, and way too long.
I love all Strike Ellacot books but this one was tougher because of the online chats and twitter feeds. I listened since the narrator is one of the best but also bought hard cover to follow the online chats and twitter. That aside another great Strike/Ellacot mystery and very relevant to todays online environment.
This is a VERY long book (slightly over 1,000 pages), but it didn't feel long except in the physical sense: it is hard to hold it. Anyway, I have really enjoyed all the Cormoran Strike books, and this one was quite good as well. The Strike/Ellacott romance plot is getting a little old, but the characterization, plotting, and writing are all engaging. It's good to see that J.K. Rowling can transfer her Harry Potter skill to the adult level.

Another great addition to the Cormoran Strike series. While the plays of Strike's leg getting bad and the tension of the Robin and Strike love story resumes it is almost reassuring to read the predictable developments now.
