This book royally made me angry from the start. I try to give a book 50 pages before giving up. By then, I was sucked into the story and still a bit annoyed. Halfway through the whole story changes. Now I’m mad again but again I can’t put a book down. I don’t think I’ve ever been so annoyed with a book but still wanted to know what happened. I didn’t get very far, read a review by someone I trust, and will pass. I’m really on a streak of DNFs here. Partly my mood, partly bad picks for me.

The Magpie Murder portion from the manuscript was a lot better to me than the mystery Susan, the editor, was trying to solve. Would rate that first mystery a 4.5 stars, and probably 2 for the Susan one.

A quite remarkable whodunnit with multiple mysteries & stories within this one work. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Too Agatha Christie for me. (I’m not a fan of the Dame.) The conceit of a book within a book was clever, but an overabundance of red herrings left me frustrated with the ending. Also the climactic confrontation at the end was unbelievable.

It’s not my usual genre but it was fun to read.

Very cleverly done.  Too long.
