This was a great read - it touched on a lot of themes that young Mormons deal with without trying to push any kind of agenda or being too heavy-handed with doctrine. The tone was approachable without oversimplifying the themes, and I walked away feeling like I'd just gotten some great life advice from a more experienced friend. It's like the author was saying "since I've been through what you're going through here's my take on things, and I hope it helps."

I will ensure my children read this book. I wish I had read it as a teenager. The epistolary prose is compelling. I especially loved the chapter on guilt and sin, and only wish I had had this book when I was younger.

Frank and poetic.

This book made me feel less alone in my faith.

3.5 for me. I didn't agree with everything, but there were a lot of interesting ideas to consider.

I really liked some of the letters, like Scripture and Sabbath. Short enough to finish in one sitting!

Adam Miller has some great insights into Mormon living, and his thoughts took me to new depths in some areas. I loved what he had to say about continuing the process of translating scriptures by finding what they mean for us in our time. The chapter on science was very well done, showing how it doesn't have to conflict with religion. But a few sections, noticeably those on hunger and sex struck me as a little strange (and certainly male) in their perspective. Clearly the "letters" were meant for a young Mormon man! Still, these little essays were valuable and helped make my Sabbath wonderful.

If you’re a member of the church and haven’t read this, I’d recommend it. A quick read with 14 different topics explained in ways I’ve never thought about.

Random thoughts from Miller:
Faith is less magic and more fidelity. Like a husband faithful to his wife, we must be faithful to Christ. Saying I love you commits you to living in a way to make that love true. Same goes for your love of Christ or God.

Chastity is not just something that shouldn’t be broken or lost, but something that is worked toward and is made.

Prayers should have room for silence and listening. Match the amount of time of speaking/asking/pleading with silence.

Feast upon the scriptures; don’t just read them.
