I’m actually shocked this book doesn’t have a higher rating 🤔

Anyways here are my two cents for those who care 😅

Midnight Is the Darkest Hour by Ashley Winstead is a gripping and atmospheric thriller that will captivate readers who crave a dark, suspenseful tale of mystery, obsession, and self-discovery, particularly those who enjoy stories about strong female protagonists, complex relationships, and the struggle for power and identity in the face of oppressive societal expectations.

Also, at its heart I think this a deep love story of two misfits who found each other in the worst possible circumstances. Two people who are a product of the society they live in and have become a million shades of grey.

I loved the exploration of generational trauma and the walls that ‘elders’ build in the minds of children that outlast childhood. How difficult it is to break them but just as necessary in order to live.

I hated everyone in this town and I’m glad it’s a fictional one.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Ashley Winstead might just not be for me. What did I read and why did it need that many Twilight references?

These gothic novels man. They are a bit boring through beginning-to-majority of the novel, but then their endings usually do something that hits (a la The Monk).
