If you expect Andrew Lloyd Webber, get that out of your head. This is an eerie mystery, perfect for the autmn months! It gave me detective mystery vibes, nothing supernatural, just tricks and a criminal mastermind.

Most of the (male) character felt insufferable. The Persian has my heart here, such a kind and smart soul! Raoul and Christine (poor soul to have to endure guys like that) got quite on my nerves. The Phantom is quite a tragic character and feel bad for people who have to live in such societies.

It was a bit predictable to me (maybe because of my experience with mystery stories, maybe because of some parts from the musical). But it was a very exciting read with all the tricks and slightly

horrific elements.

ERIK? What kind of name for a phantom is Erik? It could’ve been something more eerie but no, Erik.

Very fast paced - lots happening one after the other, lots of names that I couldn’t really keep track of everyone. The story itself I enjoyed, but I did find it challenging to keep track of at times.

i was quite intrigued while reading this as a fan of the 2004 movie. i think it overall held up and i enjoyed the additions that the book gives versus the movie. however i wish christine and roaul were more compelling in the book. it wasn’t strong enough of a romance (tragic or not) for me and i then found myself wishing that the Opera Ghost took more of a main role than he did

MY FRIEND, — Meet me at the Opera on the night after tomorrow for the masked ball. At twelve o’clock, be in the small salon beyond the fireplace of the crush-room. Stand near the door leading to the Rotunda. Do not mention this assignation to anyone. Wear a white domino and hide your face carefully. You must not be recognized, my life depends upon it.
