in book 3 i noticed that Elias’ chapters were so useless to the story so i literally skipped all his chapters, this won’t effect your knowledge of the book at all because he’s that unneeded. Laia was as annoying as ever, she just got even more special and kept being stupid. and a Helene, the only character i somewhat liked in this series, didn’t feel much like Helene. i saw a review of someone saying that they could not tell if they were reading a chapter from Laila or Helene’s POV and that’s exactly how i felt.
many things here didn’t make much sense,
Helene and Laia absolutely loving each other and Laia turning in this super skilled Mary Sue was so irritating, rolled my eyes a lot.
i knew how this book was gonna end before even starting it because it was THAT predictable but the kind of “happy” ending will surely satisfy someone who loved this series. i, however, did not.

This is possibly my favourite series ending and definitely rivals Reaper for my favourite in this series... it was just so well done. I felt ALL the emotions reading this finale.
While this series is very plot driven, you just get so attached to the characters through the books until you are a crying mess over things happening in the finale to characters you love. Not entirely surprising though since Sabaa is a wizard of words. Her writing just always has me at the edge of my seat and I had such a hard time putting this book down to sleep or work...
I love that even though there were moments to show the humanity or suffering of the characters that we hated, there was no real redemption for them. For any of them. They were all real people, some who did absolutely awful and horrendous, unforgivable things. And others who made mistakes, did awful things to survive but ultimately did good in the world, too.
While this might not be a favourite series of mine, it is definitely one that will stick with me for the characters, the writing, and the little lessons that I picked up throughout it.

I did not like the Nightbringer's story and how he ended up the way it is. I was expecting more evil and not just sadness to be the reason. Likewise, I would have wished for more background story for Keris's character. What made her end up the way it is?
During the third book, Helene ended up to be my favorite character. This feeling continued throughout the last book and only intensified. Her story is one of loss and heartbreak. She deserved so much better and I would have loved for her to have her happy ending.
Overall, I loved the Ember series. I think it is one of the best written series I have read in a long time and a series, everyone should pick up once in their life.
