Always such a delight to return to the Discworld. This book takes place mainly on the counterweight continent, a nice foray elsewhere to explore cultural difference, revolution, and, well, 'civilization' as opposed to basic barbarism practiced by Cohen and the rest of the West. While Rincewind isn't my favourite - he'd understand, I'm pretty sure he'd argue he shouldn't be anyone's favorite, or even second favourite - it's nice to check in on him from time to time, see what fresh torments The Lady has in store for him. Either way, such a relief to return to even the glum company of our not-so-favourite 'wizzard'!! (urinating dog, urinating dog)

It's very interesting reading these older Discworld books. TP always had things to say but these feel so much more lighthearted than some of his later stuff. I like both types, even if I lean a bit more towards the meatier stuff. This wasn't a bad little book. It was pretty funny in parts and I always enjoy Rincewind and Cohen. My only hang-up is probably that it strays a bit too much into unflattering caricature. I know this came out in the 90s but it is pretty much a mash up of a bunch of different Asian cultural bits. Plus there are jokes about eating dogs and lines like 'it was about to start raining cats and food' that sort of had me cringing a bit. I don't think TP was meaning it in a detrimental or hateful way but for me it very much showed its age. A quick read, funny, and still had lots to say about how people treat each other. Plus you can catch lots of seeds for future stories or references if you know them.

For me, this is propably the best book I have ever read.
