This was interesting, even though I'm very anti-monarchy. I picked it up to hear more about the failures of its system, and of course to hear how Meghan and him got out.

It's in three parts: roughly, those are 1. Harry's childhood, 2. his time in the army, 3. his time with Meghan.
The childhood/yourh part is of course emotional and sad, but also interesting. The army part absolutely made me cringe, the way he talks about war and killing people etc. (also slightly racist, though I guess trying not to be). The third part was shocking in terms of the violent and racist press, the aggressions within the family/firm etc., but of course also romantic and hopeful. Harry reading the book himself certainly adds to that, and makes it much more personal.

Given how the author has spent his whole life "inside", certain views didn't surprise me, though I was kind of disappointed that he hadn't yet found the time to "adjust" them to a world less enabled by privilege. But I definitely respect how he shared all his traumata (and stories), and how he's working on them. I respect that Meghan and him left, it's a big step, and I think it was important to share and explain what led there.

That being said, one small thing, I felt the book ended quite abruptly.

I don't consider myself a Royal watcher, but I can remember as a child, getting up really early to watch the televised wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. I remember when their sons, William and Harry, were born; the precious pictures of Princess Diana with her 2 young boys; her tragic death; and the heartbreaking images of those boys walking in her funeral procession. After such tragedy, as those boys grew into men, I, like much of the world I think, had hoped they would find happiness in marriage and building their own families. Unfortunately, the discord that has rocked the Royal Family continues the tragedy for William and Harry.

Prince Harry shares his seemingly thorough and honest memoir including stories from growing up as a Royal, memories of his mother, school days, relationships with family members, his military career, dating, scandals in the press, charity work, meeting & marrying Meghan, beginning a family, and their ultimate decision to split from the Royal Family. He reads it with an audible degree of emotion, even discussing his battle with panic attacks and PTSD before finding a therapist. This may be just 1 side of the story of everything that has transpired within the Royal Family over the past several years, but this comes from someone far down the line of succession to the throne, which I feel makes him less likely to hide anything.

I enjoyed the audiobook. My opinions haven't really changed.

I enjoyed this book. It's Harry's story about the death of his mom, live in the Royal Family, finding himself, and falling in love with Meghan.

I didn’t know much about the British Monarchy let alone the current reigning family. I had heard some of the tabloid dramas but didn’t chalk it up to much. It was very interesting hearing how “the Palace” managed their affairs and leaks.

When I told people I was reading this, they just said Prince Harry was entitled and whining. Although that may be true, there are two sides to every story and I enjoyed his. I feel bad for him and Meghan and am glad they were able to “walk away.”
