This book had everything I wanted in it. Adventure, combat and slow burn romance and an intelligent and independent woman character to name a few. It's written wonderfully and I was never bored while reading it. It's still my favorite book and I've read many more since.

I was trying to explain this book to someone when i was about 20% in. I started off by saying there's not much going on but realized that there's a lot going on! I started the book last month and would read it during work but picked it back up 3 days ago and had a hard time putting it down. It's such an engaging story. I truly fell for Cas as a main character.. he struggled with what he's been through for 3 years and all that trauma while still being a stand up guy with integrity. Of course I was all for the love interest and I was happy he was reunited with family and friends. But one of my favorite interactions was between him and the queen and how their dynamic changed from their first encounter to their last. I did predict the 'big twist' right before the reveal *literally the page before* but that still didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story and all that unfolded after. I will probably reread in the future if the story fades and I want to be reminded of it.

I loved this book so much! It's an overall well-crafted story with characters that feel real, and with a very cozy atmosphere despite the horrible things that happened in the past and the new danger in the present. While I can think of possible additions that could have made the book perfect (like perhaps a few pages more with the main antagonist), I feel so emotionally connected with this story that I don't care.
